About ABUCO-TI

ABUCO-TI is a civil society organisation founded in 1994 for the purpose of defending consumers. It is a nation-wide organisation with 350 members. Its main objectives are to promote, to develop and to defend consumer rights as well as to educate and inform consumers. Ever since its creation, ABUCO has always been a strong advocate of consumer rights and slowly government authorities are understanding this and are consulting the organisation in its decisions that matter for consumers.

2023 Campaign

ABUCO-TI tackled the problem of non-biodegradable plastic waste that threatens the biodiversity of life in and around Lake Tanganyika and poses a risk to human health. Campaign activities included group collection of the plastic waste and sensitising public institutions about the problem. The campaign focused therefore on both the individual and institutional levels, as change needs to happen in many spaces at the same time.
